Biden and Xi Meeting Scheduled for Next Week

According to sources speaking to Reuters and Bloomberg, the meeting between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping will take place next week.

The videoconference meeting between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to take place next week. Sources speaking to Reuters and Bloomberg stated that the meeting is expected to take place next week, while the White House and the Chinese embassy in Washington did not answer the question of whether the meeting will be held next week.

At the beginning of the Biden era, the US and China’s harsh language and accompanying actions against each other made the US allies uneasy. US officials think meeting directly with Xi is the best way to avoid further deterioration in relations between the world’s two largest economies.

Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, and China’s top foreign affairs official, Yang Jiechi, had reached an agreement in principle last month to have a meeting between Biden and Xi before the end of the year.
