Russia cut off Finland's gas

If Russia cuts off its energy supply, the European Union can come to an emergency regulation that will cut energy use by 15% by winter.

To debate the objective of lowering gas use, the energy ministers of the 27 nations that make up the European Union gathered in Brussels.

Some countries demand flexibility in their consumption reduction goals in Southern and Eastern Europe. Many member states are worried that focusing on consumption will harm businesses and consumers.

The EU’s move was successful thanks to the Russian energy giant Gazprom’s announcement that the gas supply from Nord Stream will be reduced to 20% capacity.

The European Energy Commissioner, Kadri Simson, stated: “I anticipate intriguing political discussions because each member state has unique circumstances. But I believe a political agreement will emerge in the end.

According to German Economy Minister Robert Habeck, a drop in Germany’s gas usage of 15 and 20 percent won’t result in an industry disaster. Habeck told a news station, “We are in a dangerous situation.” He said, “We are trying to cut down on petrol consumption.”
