EU Prepares for Strict Rules

US tech giants are preparing for new regulations that will force them to change how they operate in Europe.

U.S. tech giants are preparing for a new law that will force them to change the way they operate in Europe and could get them banned from purchases if they have significant fines or heavy criminal records.

It is stated that the new digital markets law prepared by the European Union targets companies such as Facebook and Google that have the power to control distribution in the market in which they operate.

The main rules that legislators are likely to set for these companies are to make the messaging app cross-network to prevent users from connecting to a single network, to allow users to choose a default search engine, internet browser and virtual assistant if they buy a smartphone, and to ensure fair access to app stores.

In case of violation of this law, penalties of up to ten percent of its annual global sales are imposed on the company, and this penalty is increased up to twenty percent in case of repeated violations.
