
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has extended emergency debt service assistance to 25 low-income countries until April 13, 2022
In the statement made by the IMF, it was reported that the Executive Board made a 3-month extension in debt service assistance for 25 member countries within the scope of the Disaster Impact Limitation and Debt Relief Fund (CCRT).
It was noted that approximately $115 million in debt service assistance will be provided until April 13, 2022. It was pointed out that the 5th grant was approved after the aid provided on 13 April 2020, 2 October 2020, 1 April 2021 and 6 October 2021 to ease the debt service for these countries.
In the statement, the countries that will benefit from the last grant are Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Kyrgyzstan, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Nepal, Niger, Rwanda. , Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Tajikistan, and Yemen.
According to the fund’s statement, two-year debt service assistance totaling approximately $964 million will be completed with the said grant.
IMF Director Kristalina Georgieva initiated an initiative to create approximately $1.4 billion in resources for CCRT in March 2020.
