Sweden raises interest rates

The Swedish Central Bank increased the policy rate by 50 basis points to 0.75 percent.

The Swedish Central Bank increased the policy rate by 50 basis points to 0.75 percent at its meeting today. Thus, the bank continued to raise interest rates in the second month. 16 of 17 economists surveyed by Bloomberg expected a 50 basis point increase in interest rates.

The bank, which gave the message that the policy rate would rise more, stated that the interest rate would be close to 2 percent at the beginning of next year.

The Bank’s Board of Directors stated that its assets might decrease faster than anticipated in the year’s second half.
