Tensions rise again in Taiwan

After a new delegation from the US Congress visited the island, the Chinese Ministry of Defense announced that it would organize new military patrols around the island.

China’s Ministry of Defense has announced that it will hold new patrols around Taiwan in response to the visit of a delegation from the US Congress to the island. Qu Qian, the Chinese Ministry of Defense spokesman, said Monday’s patrols and exercises in air and sea space around Taiwan are a determined and firm response to US-Taiwan solidarity. Chinese warplanes and ships have repeatedly violated the border.

It was stated that the delegation would meet with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, Foreign Minister Joseph Wu, and lawmakers. The two sides will discuss regional security, trade, investment, global supply chains, and climate change, according to the American Institute in Taiwan, known as the “unofficial US embassy.”
